Modeling of Substrate Noise Impact on a Single-ended Cascode Lna in a Lightly Doped Substrate (research Note)
نویسنده
چکیده
Substrate noise generated by digital circuits on mixed-signal ICs can disturb the sensitive analog/RF circuits, such as Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), sharing the same substrate. This paper investigates the adverse impact of the substrate noise on a high frequency cascode LNA laid out on a lightly doped substrate. By studying the major noise coupling mechanisms, a new and efficient modeling method is proposed to predict, prior to processing, the LNA performance degradation due to the substrate noise. Our simulations prove that the model can estimate the magnitude of the spurious signals appearing at the output spectrum of the 5 GHz LNA, within an acceptable error of 13%.

متن کاملCharacterization of Substrate Noise Impact on RF CMOS Integrated Circuits in Lightly Doped Substrates
Analog and RF circuit performance in single-chip transceivers can severely suffer from coupling of digital switching noise to the silicon substrate. To predict this performance degradation, a deeper understanding of the impact of substrate noise is absolutely necessary. Using measurements, this impact is studied as the cascade of an attenuation through the substrate from the source of substrate...
متن کاملA Concurrent Dual-Band Low Noise Amplifier for GNSS Receivers
In this paper, a new design of concurrent dual-band Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for multi-band single-channel Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers is proposed. This new structure is able to operate concurrently at frequency of 1.2 and 1.57 GHz. Parallel and series resonance parts are employed in the input matching in order to achieve concurrent performance. With respect to used pse...
متن کاملModeling and Simulation of Substrate Noise in Mixed-Signal Circuits Applied to a Special VCO
The mixed-signal circuits with both analog and digital blocks on a single chip have wide applications in communication and RF circuits. Integrating these two blocks can cause serious problems especially in applications requiring fast digital circuits and high performance analog blocks. Fast switching in digital blocks generates a noise which can be introduced to analog circuits by the common su...
متن کاملAn Efficient Technique for Substrate Coupling Parasitic Extraction with Application to RF/Microwave Spiral Inductors (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents an efficient modeling method, based on the microstrip lines theory, for the coupling between a substrate backplane and a device contact. We derive simple closed-form formulas for rapid extraction of substrate parasitics. We use these formulas to model spiral inductors as important substrate-noise sources in mixed-signal systems. The proposed model is verified for the freque...
